SUE
WHITING
The day Sue Whiting put on a dinosaur
costume and went to work as a storyteller at a children’s
party shop to earn some extra cash, she knew that telling
stories was the job for her. Unfortunately, it took
her many long years to work up the courage to follow
that particular dream.

For
the first twenty-five years of her working life, Sue was
a primary school teacher with a special interest in literacy
education and children’s literature. In 2005 Sue left
teaching to pursue a career in publishing and now works as
a children’s book editor. Sue is also a successful
children’s author who has written almost 60 books,
including picture books, chapter books and novels for pre-teens.
Her latest books include the junior novel A Britt
Brady Mystery: The Hairy Legs Heist and picture
book The Firefighters illustrated by Donna
Rawlins.

Sue
loves sharing her passion for writing and story and her love
of books and reading with others. She is nothing if not passionate
and has been visiting and speaking at schools, libraries,
conferences and literary festivals throughout Australia for
a number of years.

As
an ex-teacher, Sue understands schools, kids and teachers
and has something to offer all age groups including:
- dramatic
storytelling and picture book fun for younger audiences
- author
talks
- “cooking
up books” presentations – tips on how to make
a tasty story brew and exploration of the writing process
from idea to finished story
- creative
writing workshops
- and
presentations exploring the mysteries of book production
and publishing.
She
is happy to tailor her presentations to the particular needs
of the school, group or event.
