JOEL
GIBSON
Joel Gibson is a journalist with The
Sydney Morning Herald. He is the Indigenous Affairs
reporter and has edited the Radar liftout, reported on
arts, news, gossip and sport, and written for magazines
such as HQ, The Chaser and State of the Arts.
He wrote
a first-class English honours thesis at Sydney University on film
adaptations of Jane Austen's Emma, with particular
reference to Clueless, which made him the only
published author on the two texts when the Transformations elective
was created in 2001.
He has also
written about Emma and Clueless for Metaphor,
the ETA journal, and The Sydney Studies in English. He
co-wrote the Wizard Study Guide on Emma and Clueless,
now published by Cambridge University Press.
Since 2001,
Joel has lectured to many groups of students and teachers at schools,
conferences and HSC study days about Emma and Clueless,
offering practical advice to tackle the HSC's Transformations elective.
He also
offers lectures and workshops on journalism and postmodernism.
